Callahan Lake

  • Settled in 1914 by legendary lumberjack, Bill Streveas
  • Very quiet with a wilderness atmosphere
  • Considered a chain comprised of : Callahan, Mud and Reed (across Highway B)
  • Chief River enters at the top of Mud Lake
  • Common activities: Fishing,  canoeing, kayaking
  • 15 minutes east/southeast of Hayward on your way to the Chippewa Flowage
  • Approximate acreages:  Mud 389, Callahan 106, Reed 69 
  • Shoreline: 2 miles (Callahan), 6 miles (Mud), 2 miles (Reed)
  • Water color: light brown (all)
  • Drainage lakes (Mud & Callahan). Seepage lake (Reed).
  • Maximum depths: 15-18 feet

Lake Chetac

  • 25 minutes south of Hayward

Chippewa Flowage

  • Known as "The Big Chip"
  • Wisconsin’s 3rd largest lake (excluding Lake Superior and Lake Michigan). Man-made lake with 140+ islands, bogs, points, bays, channels - “wilderness” water
  • The world record Musky was caught on the Flowage.
  • Most animals, birds and fish indigenous to northern WI find habitat on or around the Flowage
  • Shoreline: 233 miles 
  • Limited private lands
